Big Grants for Big Data Research
The US National Science Foundation (NSF) and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) have awarded the first grants under their Big Data initiative, which aims to develop new tools and methods for extracting information from large data sets. Worth $15 million in total, the grants were awarded to eight research projects exploring everything from data management and analysis to language processing to searching scientific literature.
